Collaboration agreement between Zenuity and Annotell is now signed at MobilityXlab

Monday, January 28, 2019

Results can now be seen in the form of new and enhanced collaboration between large companies and start-ups within the unconventional collaboration platform MobilityXlab, where the partners CEVT, Ericsson, Veoneer, Volvo Cars, Volvo Group and Zenuity are involved together with Lindholmen Science Park.

The first company to sign a contract is Annotell, which specialises in producing large amounts of high-quality training data focusing on consistency. We humans interpret the outside world differently, so if we are going to learn a machine something, we must first agree upon how we should interpret the world.  At the same time, Zenuity is working to establish conditions for a self-driving car in the market by 2021. In order to succeed, algorithms learn to understand what takes place around the vehicle, necessitating numerous examples to learn from; this is referred to as training data. Consequently, companies have collaborated in the transfer of knowledge from man to machine through MobilityXlab.

The collaboration between Annotell and Zenuity has been accelerated through MobilityXlab, of which Zenuity is one of the founders. Annotell joined MobilityXlab this past spring and was one of the first companies invited after the platform was created a year ago.

"This is of strategic value for Zenuity in terms of achieving our goal with the self-driving car in 2021 and in order to be able to work closely with exciting companies like Annotell," says Dennis Nobelius, CEO of Zenuity. "It allows us to strengthen our work approach in the fast-paced world in which we live. We also see enormous potential in MobilityXlab. Our collaboration with Annotell may never have been established if we had not been a part of the unique collaboration platform that MobilityXlab embodies," continues Dennis.

"We're very grateful for the faith Zenuity has placed in us. It's brave to believe in small, innovative company in their early days, and we hope more companies will learn from Zenuity. MobilityXlab offers a strong platform for collaboration, and Zenuity is really showing they are serious about their participation. Together we are learning a ton. Zenuity gets access to our novel technology and our expertise in a critical area, and we get a competent and ambitious lead customer," says Oscar Petersson, one of the founders of Annotell.

"A major challenge facing start-up companies is finding the right contact persons in large companies. At MobilityXlab we offer precisely this interface as a possibility for strategic collaboration with large companies.  In our experience the winners are those who collaborate. That's why, we are happy to see the collaboration between Annotell and Zenuity, among others. I am certain that we will see more of these innovative and strong collaborations here at MobilityXlab," says Katarina Brud, Director at MobilityXlab.
