DeepScenario: “MobilityXlab offers collaboration with world-class Swedish automotive companies”

Tuesday, September 6, 2022

It is generally believed that the best support for a startup in the early days is a financial investment. However, finding and accessing clients is actually equally important, at least according to the experience of DeepScenario, one of the startups in MobilityXlab’s portfolio. Based in Munich, Germany, they provide highly accurate real-world traffic data for developing advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving.

During a recent DeepScenario visit to our office, we sat down with Dr. Holger Banzhaf, Co-Founder and Managing Director, and Nijanthan Berinpanathan, Co-Founder and Head of Business Development, for a chat about the impact of being part of MobilityXlab and what’s next for the startup.

They said that the practical experience in developing a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) offered by MobilityXlab, and the access to the Swedish market, have been the top benefits to DeepScenario. Holger explains that “for startups, clients are almost more important than an investment in the early stages because they help you validate and improve your product. And MobilityXlab was our first chance of getting into the Swedish market.”

MobilityXlab has a collaboration model to get startups and scaleups to enter a commercial contract with one of the partner companies, which is different from other acceleration programs that aim at entrepreneurship. “Everything was focused on practical co-creation work, which was very useful. We got in direct contact with the partners, so it was not just about learning theoretical aspects of business building,” says Nijanthan.

Holger agrees and highlights the proximity with the partners achieved through the program. “MobilityXlab gives this first point of contact that you can start from, build trust, and get in touch with other groups within the (partner) company,” he says.

DeepScenario was founded in 2021, the same year they were selected to join MobilityXlab as part of Batch 7. Looking into the future ahead, Nijanthan says that their main focus is now scaling up, growing the team, and strengthening the relationships with our customers. “We are now discussing the follow-up projects. So that's amazing for a startup like us, we are one year on the market and MobilityXlab really helped us to get customers who are interested in getting to the next stage with us,” he adds.

For startups thinking about applying to MobilityXlab, Holger and Nijanthan have one simple piece of advice: “If you are in the target areas, apply and try to get into the program, because the benefits are clearly visible,” concludes Nijanthan.
