A new chapter for MobilityXlab
MobilityXlab is expanding beyond mobility. The collaboration platform hosted by Lindholmen Science Park will open its model to companies in manufacturing, maritime, connectivity, high-tech, energy, and smart cities, extending a framework built in almost a decade in the automotive sector.
In 2017, MobilityXlab started as an initiative from leading mobility companies, who pooled resources, defined shared challenges, and opened their doors to startups from around the world. The structured collaboration model, known as the corporate venturing squad model, is now the basis for a wider, cross-industry platform.
What has changed, and why
The ways businesses explore new landscapes have evolved, and the challenges faced by the mobility sector are shared widely. Companies in manufacturing are wrestling with AI and predictive operations. Energy companies are managing electrification at scale. Maritime players are navigating the same questions around connected systems and sustainability that automotive companies have been asking for years.
The need for structured, neutral, multi-partner collaboration has only grown, and it has spread across sectors. Expanding the successful MobilityXlab model to more industries was the natural next step.
The new MobilityXlab brings companies together in squads around shared strategic growth areas. Each squad is built for companies to collaborate around the challenges that matter most to them, regardless of the sector they come from. They co-define those challenges, work with curated startups and with each other, and govern the programme together.
The program has also expanded its offer of services to cover the full innovation journey, no matter where in which stage a company is: startup scouting and evaluation, challenge identification, innovation facilitation, knowledge exchange, consortium building, access to soft funding, and more.
Two partners can join MobilityXlab from completely different starting points. One already has an established innovation team and needs faster access to the right startups. Another is only beginning to structure its innovation work. Our new model is designed to meet both of them where they are, so that every partner gets the full value of the platform, regardless of where they are in their innovation journey.

More opportunities for startups and a stronger West Sweden region
Startups joining the new MobilityXlab will be able to work across multiple industries at once, testing their technology and products in more sectors simultaneously. A broader partner network also means a wider path to commercial traction. They keep the core benefit that defined the original model: direct access to established companies, and the focus on validation projects that can move their technology closer to market.
For the region, the change adds to its existing strength. Gothenburg and West Sweden are home to a wide range of knowledge-intensive sectors driving innovation and long-term growth. A neutral collaboration platform open to more of those sectors reinforces the region's competitive position and its wider innovation community.
