MobilityXlab invites 11 startups to create innovative mobility solutions

Tuesday, June 14, 2022

Neuroscience-based software to detect driver behavior, accident-prevention systems for autonomous driving, smart charging for electric vehicles, and data connectivity and privacy are some of the innovations developed by the 11 startups that are joining MobilityXlab. They will now participate in the program for at least six months to co-create solutions with the seven world-leading industry partners: CEVT, Ericsson, Polestar, Veoneer, Volvo Cars, Volvo Group, and Zenseact.

Coming from seven different countries, they are: AUTOCRYPT (Germany), Code Intelligence GmbH (Germany), CorrActions (Israel), dRisk (United Kingdom), Jedlix B.V. (Netherlands), LatenceTech (Canada), Minima (United Kingdom), Phantasma Labs (Germany), Syntonym (Türkiye), XENSE Vision (Sweden), and Wedge Networks (Canada).

The startup Minima, founded in 2018 in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, focuses on creating a highly energy-efficient peer-to-peer (P2P) blockchain technology that enables secured communication among all users in a connected vehicle network, with each car running a full node.

Minima is the most decentralized and distributed open source blockchain protocol where every device runs a full validating and constructing node. This provides censorship-resistant transfer of information and value without latency, explains Hugo Feiler, CEO of Minima, in a comment and continues:

MobilityXlab gives us the valuable opportunity to collaborate with some of the largest players in the automotive industry, offering us the connection to the right specialist from day one, which is normally difficult for startups to reach on their own.

Attracting global talent and technology to Sweden

During the application stage, startups from 27 countries have applied to MobillityXlab, which demonstrates that the collaboration model proposed by the program is successful in attracting global innovation to Sweden.

- Working together with startups is essential to reaching safe, sustainable, and efficient mobility solutions. The fact that we can reach and attract companies from all over the world increases the potential for innovation development and attests to the benefits for both industry partners and startups, says Jonas Ekmark, Chairperson at MobilityXlab and Head of Collaboration and Technology at Zenseact.

In total, MobilityXlab now has 14 startups in the program, as 3 startups continued from the previous batch. Since its foundation in 2017, 80 startups have been part of MobilityXlab, and 12 accelerations (commercial contracts or partnerships) have been reached.

Multipartner collaboration platform a win-win formula

The uniqueness of MobilityXlab is the closeness to its world-leading industry partners, as their representatives are involved in every part of the organization, from screening new applicants to leading the collaboration programs. In addition, to be invited into the program, a startup needs to be selected by at least two of its industry partners, which reinforces knowledge sharing and increases the outcomes for Proof-Of-Concept (PoC) and validation projects.

The selection process for MobilityXlab takes place twice a year, with the partners deeply integrated and involved in the selection.

To keep up with the rapid pace of innovation and technology development, companies can’t rely on doing it on their own anymore. Our role is to foster access to a productive collaboration network for all parts involved, says Katarina Brud, Director at MobilityXlab.

Startups in short

AUTOCRYPT
Autocrypt provides mobility security solutions for the evolving transportation systems of today and tomorrow. Solutions cover the entire mobility ecosystem from end to end, are compliant with global standards, and have been successfully implemented and tested in real-world testbeds and traffic systems. Our goal is clear: to deliver on tomorrow's promises for better mobility and transportation, we need a vehicular environment that is secure for those inside and outside the vehicle. AUTOCRYPT makes that future a reality.

Code Intelligence GmbH
Code Intelligence offers usable application testing for everyone. The testing platform decreases the amount of expert knowledge needed and helps companies to make their software secure and reliable by detecting bugs and vulnerabilities early and automatically in the development process.

CorrActions
CorrActions' neuroscience platform detects cognitive states (drunkenness, fatigue, motion sickness etc.) via existing motion sensors (wheel, smartphones, etc.). This helps meet US and EU NCAP regulations, prevents accidents, lowers insurance premiums and reduces fuel costs.

dRisk
For AVs to become a commercial reality, AV developers are starting to realize that they must learn to handle huge numbers of edge cases -- the countless high-risk scenarios which are individually unlikely, but together make up the bulk of the risk. dRISK is solving this problem with a full-stack technology suite for training and testing AVs on the most diverse ever collection of edge cases. This product, the first true driver’s test for self-driving cars, is funded by a major grant from the UK’s Department of Transport.

Jedlix B.V.
Jedlix is the leading smart charging service provider that has the mission to make zero emission charging the norm for millions of electric vehicles across 5 continents by 2030. Jedlix teams up with energy companies, CPOs and car manufacturers to reduce the total cost of ownership of Electric Vehicles, to monetize the flexibility of their charging process on energy markets, and to optimize the use of renewable energy.

LatenceTech
LatenceTech offers a SaaS analytics and monetization solution for cellular networks with a special focus on ultra-low latency connectivity. Using real-time active measurements and AI, our solution helps mobile operators, telecom vendors and advanced industries to track, predict and secure the new benefits of 5G cellular technology.

Minima
Minima has created a next generation blockchain platform which is a completely decentralized mobile-first protocol for blockchain transactions. Its ultra-lean blockchain protocol allows every user to run a full constructing and validating node. By creating a network that is owned, run, and secured by its users, the platform that allows users to be completely autonomous, while still ensuring that they remain fully accountable.

Phantasma Labs
Phantasma Labs helps automotive companies build safe autonomous vehicles. We provide behaviour models of Vulnerable Road Users and Vehicles for virtual testing and validation of path planning algorithms. Our intelligent AI agents can be integrated into various simulation tools for evaluating the safety of AD/ADAS functions.

Syntonym
Syntonym is a privacy enabler for autonomous mobility; our technology ensures real-time, lossless camera data anonymization in a GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulation compliant way. Maximizing privacy protection with Synthetic Faces, Syntonym further unlocks a new dimension of privacy-protected digital engagement across multiple platforms.

Wedge Networks
Wedge Networks is a leader in intelligent real-time threat prevention. With patents in deep content inspection and machine learning inferencing for advanced threat prevention, it is the only solution in the market that can prevent never-before-seen malware in real-time, securing millions of connected digital systems in 23 countries.

XENSE Vision
XENSE Vision enables autonomous driving in the most challenging traffic situations by extending the vehicle's perception with detailed insights beyond the line of sight. By combining multiple 3D sensors all vehicles and people are correctly detected in critical locations like dense intersections.

The remaining startups from the previous batch are 12iDAiden, and Eyescanner.
